My client had bought a maisonette in Ealing and asked me if I’d help her remodel it to bring more light and space in and to help with the design and function of the apartment. I met with her a few times at the property and we discussed options. It’s really important in my role that I listen carefully so that I support the development of my clients’ ideas and don’t impose my own.
I soon got an idea about what she might like and we moved on to discuss practical details. At this stage I went away and put together a quotation of the costs for the building and the decoration work. During this period I arranged for other trades to visit the site so we could be as clear as possible about what she wanted and build an accurate costing structure.

Once these costs were agreed we began work. The builder came in first followed by the electrician and the plumber. I ensured that the project ran smoothly and met regularly with the trades to ensure everything was going as per the specification and with the client to ensure everything was satisfactory.
Through the 6 week period the project was running we kept in close touch about materials, colours etc. We were able to think together and I could advise her on fixtures and fittings (e.g. bathroom, kitchen and flooring) so that she chose things that she liked and were in budget.

I was also able to help her think about how best to use the space to get maximum light but also maximum storage for example.
At the end of the project she was really happy that I had come in on budget, on time. She also said I had been cheerful and reassuring and helped her stay calm. She loves her ‘new’ house and actually said she’d found the whole project exciting and fun. Not to mention the value that the project had added to her property.
